Sail Your Own Way

Cruising solo isn't a compromise — it's one of the easiest ways to see the world, with company whenever you want it and quiet time whenever you don't. These six cruise lines make it easier, with solo-friendly staterooms, reduced supplements and onboard programming built for meeting fellow travelers.

Your Guide to Solo Cruising
Yes — cruising is consistently ranked as one of the most solo-friendly ways to travel. You only unpack once, meals and excursions naturally put you around other people and the ship itself offers built-in structure and safety that independent trips don't always provide. Many solo travelers say the hardest part is deciding which itinerary to book.
Not necessarily. Most cruise fares are priced for two people sharing a cabin, so solo travelers are typically charged a "single supplement" to cover the difference. Many cruise lines offer ways around this, whether that's a dedicated solo stateroom priced for one, a reduced supplement on select sailings, or promotional periods where the supplement is waived entirely.
Each cruise line offers its own ways to connect: solo traveler welcome receptions, shared or communal dining tables, hosted cocktail hours and lounges designed specifically for guests sailing alone. Shore excursions are another natural icebreaker, since you're touring in a small group alongside other travelers regardless of whether you booked solo.
Norwegian Cruise Line pioneered single-occupancy Studio cabins with their own private lounge and AmaWaterways, Scenic and Emerald each offer dedicated single-occupancy staterooms on select ships. Regent Seven Seas and Silversea don't have solo-specific cabin categories, but both regularly reduce or waive the single supplement on select suite categories and sailings.

Featured Cruise Lines

Norwegian Cruise Line®

Big-Ship Energy, Built-In Community

Norwegian pairs lively, activity-packed ships with a dedicated Studio Lounge — a key-card-access space where solo travelers gather over coffee before splitting off for the day. Shore excursions like snorkeling put you shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow travelers from the first splash, so you're only ever as alone as you want to be.

Silversea®

Cultural Connection, Warmly Hosted

Silversea's small, all-suite ships draw a curious, well-traveled crowd. Included excursions explore local culture in small groups, and the spa's thermal pool is a favorite spot to unwind alongside new friends. Gentlemen Hosts join guests for dinner and dancing, and every sailing opens with a welcome reception built for connecting.

Regent Seven Seas®

Quiet Luxury, No Forced Mingling

Regent is for solo travelers who want space to breathe. With no more than 750 guests onboard, you'll never fight a crowd for a lounger by the infinity pool or space in the sauna. Every detail, including shore excursions, specialty dining and Wi-Fi, is already arranged. Connect when you feel like it; relax uninterrupted when you don't.

AmaWaterways™

Independence with a Safety Net

AmaWaterways strikes a balance between guided structure and independent exploring. Take the included walking tour, or set out on your own and rejoin the ship later. Select European vessels carry purpose-built 140-sq-ft single-occupancy staterooms with French balconies, making it a favorite for solo river cruisers.

Scenic Luxury Cruises

Boutique-Ship Familiarity

Scenic's river ships carry a fraction of the guests of an ocean liner, so by day two you'll recognize faces at breakfast. Select vessels carry a dedicated single-occupancy stateroom with its own private balcony and small-group European touring, meaning you're rarely exploring a new town without company nearby.

Emerald Cruises

Built for the Active Solo Traveler

Emerald leans into hands-on adventure, with EmeraldACTIVE excursions like kayaking and cycling that put solo travelers directly into a group dynamic from the moment you step off the ship. Back onboard, the Horizon Bar & Lounge and shared tables at Reflections Restaurant keep the momentum going over dinner.
